Joe is a globally experienced investor and entrepreneur with 30 years experience in investment, property, investment banking, medical devices and technology. Joe has been involved in pre-IPO investment since starting his career and has a strong track record in funding, sourcing and promoting UK and European commercial real estate deals for private equity and real estate funds. Joe began his investment banking in London in 1987 with Henry Cooke Lumsden, one of the UK’s most respected and long-established stockbroking firms. Following its acquisition by Brown Shipley, the UK investment bank in 1992, Joe became the company’s youngest ever partner and director of investment at the age of 27. Joe established Solidus Capital Partners in London in 2009, focusing on industrial real estate and technology. In 2013, Joe moved to Singapore where he founded Advanced First Aid Research, a Singapore-based research and development company specializing in burn and wound care. In 2014, Joe founded iQNECT, a technology company which enables mobile commerce and data mining through image matching. Throughout his career, Joe has lived and worked in Ireland, England, Switzerland and Singapore, where he has developed a deep understanding of the Global business landscape. His international experience has afforded him the opportunity to develop a world-class business network spanning a dozen high-growth sectors. Currently Joe is based in Singapore where he is a member and sponsor of the Irish Chamber of Commerce.
Liam has over 13 years experience across professional services, banking and medical device business development accumulated while working with Ernst & Young and Barclays Investment Bank before joining AFAR. Prior to accepting the role of CEO, Liam held the titles of Director of Business Development and CFO and continues to serve on the Board of Directors, playing a leading role in strategy, product development and financial governance. Liam oversees all growth related strategy across medical and cosmetic brands including licensing, own brand sales, joint ventures, e-commerce, business development and the AFAR digital footprint.
Chief Technical Officer
Steve holds MSc from Cambridge University & brings over 25 years’ experience in design, development, manufacturing, quality, distribution & sales of the AFAR team. Steve has twice won the prestigious “ Queen’s Award for Technological Achievement for his work on technological advancement of fractional synthesis. He has commercialized three global best selling designs in high-security military radio and scientific monitoring equipment. Steve has previously held senior engineering positions with GEC, NATO & Marconi Systems.
Stephen is currently Chairman of Evercore Asia Limited having previously served as Senior Managing Director and Senior Advisor from 2009. This role has seen him advise numerous billion and multi-million dollar deals across a wide variety of industries and market sectors. From 2004 to 2009 Stephen worked with Macquarie in managing director, senior managing director roles before his appointment as Vice Chairman ASEAN with responsibilities including investment banking country head, structured solutions for Equity Capital Markets and Investment Banking coverage for all of ASEAN. Stephen held senior positions with Merril Lynch, Salomon Brothers and Morgan Grenfell Asia prior to this. He had won 12 deals of the year awards in the last 12 years from The Asset, Finance Asia and other publications.
Dr Ahuja’s experience in Plastic Surgery spans 3 decades, of which last 22 years he has headed the most prestigious department in the specialty. He has lead many clinical trials and several of his innovative surgical procedures are published in leading Journals. Dr Ahuja is on the editorial board of several journals including JPRAS, BURNS, Annals of Burns & Fire Disasters, International J of Burns & Trauma, IJPS, Plastic Surgery (formerly Canadian J of Plastic Surgery).
Dr Ahuja is also known for his organizational capabilities as he has organized several National and International Congresses. Notably, he was the Chairman of the 15th World Congress of International Confederation of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery (IPRAS) in 2009, and the President of the 9th Asia Pacific Burn Congress. Dr Ahuja is now to host in Delhi the World Congress of International Society for Burn Injuries in 2018.
He is the immediate Past President of the International Society for Burn Injuries (ISBI) and ex Secretary General (Head of office) of IPRAS-Asia Pacific Section. It is rare for any individual in the world to head two prestigious International Societies. Dr Ahuja has also served as the President of both, Association of Plastic Surgeons of India (APSI) and the National Academy of Burns-India (NABI) in 2005.
He is one of the earliest recipients of the State Award from Government of NCT of Delhi for excellence in service (year 2000). In 2006, Dr Ahuja was the Guest Editor of a special issue on ‘Cosmetic Surgery’ published by JIMSA. Dr Ahuja is an expert with WHO, CDC (USA), Healing Foundation (UK), Global Alliance for Cook stoves, ICMR etc. He has been an Invited Faculty and Guest Speaker at over 180 meetings nationally and internationally.
Dr Ahuja’s special interests within the specialty include Aesthetic surgery, Reconstructive surgery, Clefts, Burns and Genitourinary (including sex reassignment surgery).
